Coup Comment: ‘He Should Have Known Better’ – Kojo Oppong Nkrumah Scolds Prof Atuguba | Politics

Published

on

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has criticized the Dean of the University of Ghana Law School, Professor Raymond Atuguba.

Prof Atuguba has been severely criticized for suggesting that Ghana is susceptible to a coup, looking at the hardship in the country.

According to him, “we do not want coup in this country but if we do not act quickly we may have one in our hands. There is one thing to do now, prevent coup in Ghana since the climate and the environment, national and immediate international, are conducive for one. We must compel the government to acknowledge the current economic mess, they mostly, and previous governments, to a larger extent.”

“Ghana’s economic problems started before Covid-19. On balance, Covid-19 was a good thing for Africa and Ghana,” he said at a forum held by Solidare Ghana.

Speaking to this in an interview on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo‘, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said as a learned person, Prof Atuguba should have known better.

“As an intellectual, he should have known better . . . he could have just expressed his mind instead of sowing such seeds in the minds of people. The government is not against free speech but you can’t take advantage of that and preach coup,” he stated.

‘Halt Your Populist Rhetoric or Face Our Wrath’ – Fixing The Country Movement Cautions Haruna Iddrisu And His Likes | Politics

Published

on

Fixing the Country Movement has warned the Minority Leader of Parliament, Haruina Iddrisu and his likes in the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) over their flowery rhetoric and attrition against the country’s security institutions.

According to the Movement, in a widely circulated video, Haruna Iddrisu issued several threats to state security, and warned that the NDC is going to come at them if they attempt to deliver on their legitimate mandate in policing the 2024 elections.

“The trouble with this ideological weirdness, hatred and paranoia that Haruna Iddrisu is preaching is that, it will eventually consume more of his likes. These people are simply a pawn in their own game. They value faith over rationality, rejection over openness, and fanaticism over moderation. Instead of Haruna Iddrisu engaging his audience with maturity, he chose the path of war mongering, and politics of attrition,” a part of the statement signed by Ernest Owusu Bempah, Convener of the Movement said.

He added that Fixing the country movement will not fold their arms unconcerned while the likes of Haruna Iddrisu “engages in political folly” by threatening the state.

“We’re by this press release cautioning Haruna Iddrisu and his likes to halt their populist rhetoric or they will face the wrath of fixing the country movement in a way they can never understand,” he cautioned.

Read full statement below:

Haruna Iddrisu must stop the rhetoric or we will face him squarely, By Fixing The Country Movement

The fixing the country movement joins the totality of right thinking Ghanaians to condemn the minority leader, Hon Haruna Iddrisu over his flowery rhetoric and attrition against our security institutions.

In a widely circulated video, Haruna Iddrisu issued several threats to state security, and warned that the NDC is going to come at them if they attempt to deliver on their legitimate mandate in policing the 2024 elections.

“We will never give up,” he said. “We will never concede. It will never happen. The NDC is going to win 2024, and we will fight the security agencies if they dare stopping us. Our country has had enough. We will not take it anymore.”

He continued; we will show strength, and… We fight the security agencies like hell if they try to stop us.

As unfortunate as this sounds, one would have thought that the minority leader would be interested in talking down electoral violence but no, he chose to double down on violence.

Of course, we do not expect a witless and gutless law maker to be a paragon of political integrity and critical thinking, but aside everything, what happened to his political consciousness?

The trouble with this ideological weirdness, hatred and paranoia that Haruna Iddrisu is preaching is that, it will eventually consume more of his likes. These people are simply a pawn in their own game. They value faith over rationality, rejection over openness, and fanaticism over moderation. Instead of Haruna Iddrisu engaging his audience with maturity, he chose the path of war mongering, and politics of attrition.

Perhaps, more worrying from the point of view of protecting democracy are NDC efforts to mess with how votes are counted and certified, and who is responsible for elections. The bottom-feeder Haruna Iddrisu sees achieving these through electoral violence.

This is politics at its worst. We are appalled, angry and sad that the minority leader in parliament is gleefully endorsing and preaching electoral violence.

As a matter of fact, we are aware that Haruna Iddrisu has lost face with the movers and shakers in the NDC, and as such he want to save face and restore himself, but we want to caution him to be watchful of his steps.

When you’ve got poop all over your feet, you don’t walk on a white rag.

Fixing the country movement will not fold our arms unconcerned while the likes of Haruna Iddrisu engages in political folly by threatening the state.

We’re by this press release cautioning Haruna Iddrisu and his likes to halt their populist rhetoric or they will face the wrath of fixing the country movement in a way they can never understand.

Long live Ghana

Signed;

Ernest Kofi Owusu Bempah
(Political Strategist and Convener of fixing the country movement)

Ghanaians Are Lucky To Have Akufo-Addo As President – John Boadu | Politics

Published

on

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has said that Ghanaians are lucky to have Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo leading the country through this current economic challenge.

According to him, Akufo-Addo, despite all the global hardships which had been caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the increase in prices of petroleum products has led Ghana’s economy to experience good growth rates, myjoyonline.com reports.

He indicated that should the National Democratic Congress government led by former President John Dramani Mahama be at the helm of things in the country Ghana will be in a worse position than it is currently.

“We (NPP) are far better managers of this economy than they can think of. We are lucky Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government is in power in times of this drastic shock; the twin problem of COVID and fuel price increases.

“They (the NDC) didn’t experience that, but we saw what they managed to perform. He (Mahama) wouldn’t perform anything better than what has been done,” he said.

Touching on the comments made by Mahama at the NDC’s ‘Ghana at a Crossroads’ event, Boadu said Mahama’s proposal to get the country out of the current economic challenge was nothing new.

“… I thought that he was going to say that he has a policy direction that is different from what we’re doing or he has anything different that if he were there, would have implemented and made things better. That’s what I expect from a responsible opposition that is ready and waiting to take government,” he said.

Ex-President John Dramani Mahama had said that he left a stable economy for the current administration, contrary to assertions by government officials who blame him for the challenges the country is currently facing.

Mahama said that the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo led government could have at the barest minimum built on the strong foundation his government left behind to help improve the livelihood of Ghanaians.

“After inheriting a stable economy that was programmed and poised for rapid growth from early 2017, this government has squandered its way into a ditch from which it has become impossible to emerge without imposing even deeper hardships and suffering on Ghanaians,” he said.

Mahama Is Scared Of Kwabena Duffuor – Volta NDC Members | Politics

Published

on

A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in the Volta Region who say they are throwing their weights behind the flagbearership ambition of former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, have gone confrontational with former President John Mahama and his supporters.

In a statement released on Thursday, May 12, 2022, the group accuse “the Mahama gang” of using “communist inferior tactics” against Dr. Duffuor and his admirers out of fear.

“We are seeing the subtle attacks in the form of people secretly trying to convince party members to ignore Dr. Duffuor even though the time for campaigning has not yet come.

“We want the Mahama gang to know that we know what is going on; there is a secret campaign to blemish Duffuor in the minds of the party members out of fear that Dr. Duffuor will win the presidential primary and lead NDC in the 2024 elections,” the group said in a statement.

The statement is signed by Mr. E. Adjorlolo and Mr. Kofi Mensah both of the Ketu South constituency branch of the party.

The release comes in the wake of the allegation that some persons are secretly prosecuting a campaign of discrediting Dr. Kwabena Duffuor within the NDC party even though the

party’s leadership has not officially opened a campaign season.

According to the revelations, the anti-Duffuor campaign focuses on making Dr. Duffuor to look bad by all sorts of claims, including that Duffuor is an NPP mole within the NDC.

“We have heard the lie that Duffuor has been an NPP mole within the NDC and that he has now only become cozy with the NDC because Akufo-Addo has deliberately collapsed his bank so that Duffuor’s quest for the 2024 flagbearership is in hopes of

being elected as president so that he can get his bank back.

“We want those on that propaganda to know that we are not children because we know that the reason why the Mahama gang is lying this is that their boss, Mr. Mahama is afraid of Duffuor. Mahama is scared of Duffuor, plain and simple,” the statement by

Mr. Adjorlolo and Kofi Mensah said.

It added that, “these lies based on fear will not move us to change our mind.

The wind of change is blowing all over and like the EIU forecast said, 2024 is for NDC to lose but the party has a better surety and is electing anyone else for the 2024 ticket apart from Mr. John Mahama. That man we need is clearly Dr. Kwabena Duffuor and no amount of secret badmouthing of Dr. Duffuor will change that.”
