President Akufo-Addo has given directive to suspend the purchase of imported vehicles with immediate effect as part of the measures to save the economy.

Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta who announced this on Thursday said the move will help reduce government reliance on the importation of vehicles by 50%.

According to him, “Discretionary spending is to be further cut by an additional 10%.
The Ministry of Finance is currently meeting with MDAs to review their spending plans for the rest of the three quarters to achieve the discretionary expenditure cuts; “these times call for very efficient use of energy resources”.

He explained that “In line with this, there will be a 50% cut in fuel coupon allocations for all political appointees and Heads of government institutions, including SOEs, effective 1 April 2022 and with immediate effect, Government has imposed a complete moratorium on the purchase of imported vehicles for the rest of the year”.

He said, “This will affect all new orders, especially 4-wheel drives. We will ensure that the overall effect is to reduce total vehicle purchases by the public sector by at least 50 percent for the period”.

He also announced that fuel coupons to government appointees will be slashed by 50% with immediate effect.

Drama Unfolds As NPP Aspirant Cries For Votes | Politics

Published

on

DRAMA UNFOLDED when an aspirant for the Ashanti Regional Second Vice Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Oscar Riches, burst into tears whilst he was campaigning for votes.

Affectionately called ‘Ghana Beye Yie’, Oscar was addressing the Effiduase Asokore Constituency executives of the NPP to solicit their votes, when he started to cry on Monday.

Ghana Beye Yie, who had then been given the platform to announce his campaign message to the NPP delegates, turned emotional whilst he was pleading with the delegates to support his bid.

According to him, he loved the NPP so much with his whole heart and so was only seeking the chance to be elected as the party’s regional second vice chairman so he could serve his beloved NPP.

In the course of his address, Ghana Beye Yie became emotional as he went down on his knees and started to cry uncontrollably, begging and pleading with the delegates to give him the chance to serve.

The NPP man’s shocking action, reportedly, made the NPP delegates present also emotional. Some of the delegates even consoled Ghana Beye Yie to stop crying and assured him of their votes.

After he had been consoled, Ghana Beye Yie continued with his statement, stressing that the NPP is the suitable political party to lead the country into affluence, so the party should stay in power.

According to him, election 2024 would be dicey and therefore the NPP should vote for patriotic, visionary and hardworking people like him to help the party to hang onto political power in 2024.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has begun inspecting all registered political party offices across the country to ensure that they operate in line with the Political Parties Law.

This forms part of the mandates of the Commission as enshrined in the Political Parties Act 2000 (Act 574) to inspect political party offices and monitor their activities.

“The Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574) mandates political parties to have offices at the national, regional levels and at least in two-thirds of the districts in the country,” the EC stressed.

In a letter addressed to the political parties, the Commission reiterated that it wanted to see “if the political parties are functioning and if they meet the requirements by Act 574, including having functioning offices, filing of their accounts at the EC and whether their offices are owned by them or rented.
