Brother of Black Stars striker Jordan Ayew, Rahim Ayew says he was disappointed by the reaction of fans towards Jordan Ayew’s performance in the first leg of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers match between the Black Stars and the Super Eagles.

Jordan Ayew was booed by Ghanaian supporters after an awful performance during the game against the Super Green Eagles of Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup Play offs.

The boos were initally heard when the Crystal Palace forward was substituted in the 92nd minute.

Ayew was replaced in the 92nd minute by Kwasi Okyere Wriedt, who is based in Germany. Fans began booing as the Crystal Palace player made his way off the field, indicating that they were dissatisfied with Jordan’s performance.

According to Rahim Ayew, his brother has offered a lot of sacrifices for the nation hence he doesn’t deserve to be booed.

“Jordan Ayew has done a lot of sacrifices for the nation I was disappointed in the fans for booing him but that is football you need to accept it like that,” Rahim Ayew told the media after Black Stars 0-0 stalemate score against Nigeria.

The four-time African champions hosted their rivals, the Super Eagles in the first leg of the 2022 World Cup playoff games at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday night.

After an impressive start, the Black Stars who were eager to score failed to take their chances against the Eagles with the game ending 0-0.

Chelsea Takeover: Todd Boehly’s £4.25bn Bid Approved By Government | Football/Soccer

Published

on

The government has approved the £4.25bn Todd Boehly-led consortium takeover of Chelsea.

After months of negotiations, the deal has finally been approved after the government received legal guarantees that Roman Abramovich – who has had his UK assets frozen – will not benefit from the sale.

Russian-Israeli billionaire Abramovich put Chelsea, which he purchased in 2003, up for sale on March 2, a week after Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24.

“Late last night the UK Government reached a position where we could issue a licence that permits the sale of Chelsea Football Club,” read a government statement.

“Following the sanctioning of Roman Abramovich, the government has worked hard to ensure Chelsea Football Club has been able to continue to play football. But we have always been clear that the long-term future of the club could only be secured under a new owner.

“Following extensive work, we are now satisfied that the full proceeds of the sale will not benefit Roman Abramovich or any other sanctioned individual,” continued the statement.

“We will now begin the process of ensuring the proceeds of the sale are used for humanitarian causes in Ukraine, supporting victims of the war.

Tariq Lamptey Considering Ghana Switch After Snubbing Young Lions Call-up | Football/Soccer

Published

on

Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey is seriously considering switching international allegiance to Ghana after being asked to be left out of England U21’s latest squad.

The 21-year-old was expected to be selected for the Young Lions’ upcoming four Euro qualifiers against the Czech Republic, Albania, Kosovo, and Slovenia.

However, he has decided to sit out the matches while deciding whether or not to play for the Black Stars.

Lamptey, who has two England U21 caps, is of Ghanaian descent and was born in Hillingdon, west London.

Young Lions boss Lee Carsley revealed: “There’s an issue over his dual nationality. He’s had an approach. It’s something he’s considering at the minute.

“He’s asked to be left out of the squad for a bit of head space. He’s not switched, it’s not cemented or anything like that.

“But he’s had an approach (from Ghana), we have to respect that.

“We’ve made it clear how important we see him to us. I know the seniors have as well.

“It’s not something that we’ve given up on. Tariq is fully aware of how important we see him.”

Lamptey has had several “good conversations” with Carsley about the situation, and Carsley believes senior manager Gareth Southgate has also spoken with the Albion right-back.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James, Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier, James Justin, Kyle Walker-Peters, Tino Livramento, and others are among England’s options in this position.

Carsley added: “I’ve definitely got to give him a bit of space now. We’ve got a squad of players there that are desperate to play for England.

“I wouldn’t want to leave one out to bring one in that’s unsure, I don’t think that’s fair.

“But the opposite to that is Tariq is a big player for us and we see a real future for him within the pathway, so I’ll definitely be going back to him.

“He would be a big loss. We do have some really good right-backs but that doesn’t mean we should become blasé about our players.

“We see Tariq as an important player for not potentially only the senior team but the 21s as well.”

Lamptey had a decent campaign, making 30 appearances and recording two assists.

PSG ‘Will Let Neymar Leave If The Right Offer Comes In This Summer’ | Football/Soccer

Published

on

Paris Saint-Germain are willing to let Brazilian forward Neymar leave this summer if they receive a suitable offer, according to reports in France.

The Brazilian is still the most expensive player of all time after joining the French giants for £198m in 2017, but his status at the club is said to be on the wane.

And as reported by French outlet L’Equipe, his relationship with star man Kylian Mbappe – who has just signed a £650,000-a-week, three-year deal – has deteriorated to the point the club and president Nasser Al-Khelaifi are fine with letting him go.

However, European giants Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have no interest in signing the 30-year-old, and Saudi Arabia-funded Newcastle could afford him but Neymar would not want a move there.

When Neymar joined the club from Barcelona, he was one of the biggest names in the sport and Al-Khelaifi said he had ‘the best player in the world’ at the Parc des Princes.

That may still be true, but Neymar has since been eclipsed by Mbappe, who has outscored him for the last four seasons, and the 22-year-old forward’s bumper new deal cements his position as No 1 at PSG.
