Bawumia Woos American Football To Establish NFL Africa Academy In Ghana For Talent Development | General Sports

Published

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has made a strong case to the National Football League (NFL), the global governing body in charge of American Professional Football, to establish an NFL Africa Academy in Ghana to unearth and develop talents from Ghana and neighbouring countries.

Dr. Bawumia, who hosted a delegation of the NFL at the Jubilee House on Friday, stressed that Ghana, with a multi-talented youth, as well as being a peaceful and a business-friendly nation, is well-suited for an NFL Africa Academy to help unearth and develop talents for professional American and also create opportunities for the youth.

The visit by the American NFL delegation follows a meeting in New York earlier this year between the Office of the Vice President and the NFL, which discussed potentials and opportunities in the NFL expanding its operations in Ghana for talent discovery and development.

Subsequent to the meeting, the NFL has selected Ghana to host an NFL Africa Camp in June this year,  to identify talents for development.

Dr. Bawumia expressed gratitude to the NFL for choosing Ghana to host the talent discovery NFL Africa Camp, adding that the platform will create opportunities for the youth of Ghana.

“I am happy that you have decided to make the NFL Africa Campt happen here in Ghana. It is an opportunity for young people in this country,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“We have a very strong, athletic and intelligent youth who are waiting for such opportunities and I am sure once this comes and awareness grows, are going to take advantage of what is on offer to open doors for our young people”

On the long-term promotion and development of NFL in Ghana and the African continent, Dr. Bawumia noted that establishing an academy, in the model of a football academy, will be a great way developing NFL talents and also provide the youth alternative career paths through education and sports.

In this regard, Dr. Bawumia urged the NFL to consider establishing the academy in Ghana, because the country offers many opportunities.

“Establishing the NFL Africa Academy here in the mold of a football academy like Right to Dream, will go a long way to help in the unearthing and development of talents, as well as providing alternative career pathways to the youth,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“The talent is here across all sports. We have a very strong, athletic and intelligent youth who are waiting for such opportunities.”

“I am sure once this comes (establishing the academy) and awareness grows, we are going to take advantage of what is on offer, that is development of NFL talents and opening of doors for our youth.”

The Vice President assured the NFL delegation of government’s commitment to sports development, as well as its willingness to support positive sports initiatives, which open doors to the youth of the country.

“Our government is committed to supporting the promotion and development of sports, and we will support initiatives which will open up our sports and give our youth opportunities.”

“You can count on my support for such sports initiatives. I am a sports enthusiast, but I am also an economist and I see the potential of sports contributing to the growth of the economy and offering opportunities to the youth.”

The NFL delegation, led by its Chief Operating Officer, International commended Dr. Bawumia for showing keen interest in pushing for the presence of the NFL in Ghana to open new opportunities to Ghanaian youth.

The delegation also thanked him for the meeting with his office in New York, as well as welcome them to his office for further discussions.

The NFL delegation also included Ghanaian NFL star, Jeremy Owusu-Koramoah and two-time Super Bowl winner, Nigerian Osi Umenyiora.

‘I Am The Best’: Mohamed Salah Claims He Is Better Than ‘Any Player In His Position’ | Football/Soccer

Published

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has claimed he is ‘the best’ in his position and insisted that he beats his rivals in the stats.

The Egyptian forward has just been named 2022 FWA Footballer of the Year after another impressive season for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Despite a dip in form in recent weeks, he has netted 30 times in 48 appearances across all competitions so far this term and is currently leading the race for the Golden Boot.

And the 29-year-old seemingly agrees that his performances this season merit the award as he claimed he is better than any other player in his position – including Reds team-mates Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz.

‘If you compare me with any player in my position, not only in my team but in the world, you will find that I am the best,’ Salah told beIN SPORTS, via Goal.

‘I always focus on my work and do my best and my numbers are the best proof of my words.

‘I like to always create a new challenge for me, to work in a different way and to make a difference and that is my duty.’

Salah’s bold claim comes ahead of two crucial final showdowns for Klopp’s side, starting with a trip to Wembley this Saturday.

Liverpool face Chelsea in the FA Cup final this weekend before a battle against Real Madrid for a seventh Champions League title.

Chelsea Strike £20m-a-year Shirt Sleeve Deal With WhaleFin | Football/Soccer

Published

on

Chelsea have announced cryptocurrency firm WhaleFin as their new shirt sleeve sponsors for the 2022-23 campaign.

The Blues confirmed on their official website in the early hours of Saturday morning that American billionaire Todd Boehly and his consortium had signed an agreement purchase the club, following the UK Government’s approval.

He has partnered with fellow Dodgers owner Mark Walter, Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss as well as investment firm Clearlake Capital.

And following Boehly’s arrival in west London, the European champions have now confirmed a £20m-a-year deal with burgeoning group WhaleFin, who are set to replace South Korean car firm Hyundai as shirt sleeve sponsors next season.

WhaleFin is a digital asset platform owned by Amber Group, a company based in Singapore.

The deal marks Chelsea’s first official move into the crypto market, weeks after Liverpool were linked with picking another such firm to replace their main shirt sponsor, Standard Chartered, and after Manchester United made a deal with blockchain group Tezos.

It is also worth double the amount of their current package with Hyundai, who sealed a five-year deal worth £50million (£10million per year) with the west London club back in 2018.

After confirming their agreement with Amber Group on Thursday, Chelsea CEO Guy Lawrence said: ‘This is a hugely exciting partnership for the club, which aligns us with one of the most advanced digital asset companies in the world.

‘As Amber Group continue to expand coverage of their platform globally, they will now have the ability to not only speak to the hundreds of millions of loyal Chelsea fans around the globe but also be seen by the billions who tune into the Premier League each season.’
