‘Unique’ N’Golo Kante Could Be Struggling For Form Due To Fasting For Ramadan – Thomas Tuchel | Football/Soccer

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has suggested star midfielder N’Golo Kante’s recent drop in form could be down to the player fasting for Ramadan.

Kante is a practising Muslim and is currently observing Ramadan, which means he cannot eat or drink during daylight hours from April 1 to May 1.

The Frenchman, a key part of Tuchel’s side, was substituted at half-time for the first time in his career during Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday – a decision which left some pundits shocked.

Tuchel later confirmed he had taken Kante off at the break for tactical reasons after the midfielder had struggled in the opening 45 minutes.

Chelsea Strike £20m-a-year Shirt Sleeve Deal With WhaleFin | Football/Soccer

Chelsea have announced cryptocurrency firm WhaleFin as their new shirt sleeve sponsors for the 2022-23 campaign.

The Blues confirmed on their official website in the early hours of Saturday morning that American billionaire Todd Boehly and his consortium had signed an agreement purchase the club, following the UK Government’s approval. 

He has partnered with fellow Dodgers owner Mark Walter, Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss as well as investment firm Clearlake Capital.

And following Boehly’s arrival in west London, the European champions have now confirmed a £20m-a-year deal with burgeoning group WhaleFin, who are set to replace South Korean car firm Hyundai as shirt sleeve sponsors next season.

WhaleFin is a digital asset platform owned by Amber Group, a company based in Singapore. 

The deal marks Chelsea’s first official move into the crypto market, weeks after Liverpool were linked with picking another such firm to replace their main shirt sponsor, Standard Chartered, and after Manchester United made a deal with blockchain group Tezos. 

It is also worth double the amount of their current package with Hyundai, who sealed a five-year deal worth £50million (£10million per year) with the west London club back in 2018.

After confirming their agreement with Amber Group on Thursday, Chelsea CEO Guy Lawrence said: ‘This is a hugely exciting partnership for the club, which aligns us with one of the most advanced digital asset companies in the world. 

‘As Amber Group continue to expand coverage of their platform globally, they will now have the ability to not only speak to the hundreds of millions of loyal Chelsea fans around the globe but also be seen by the billions who tune into the Premier League each season.’

UEFA Warn Liverpool and Real Madrid Fans Not To Buy Final Tickets ‘On The Secondary Market’ – With Cheapest Seats Starting At £2,797 Online | Football/Soccer

UEFA have delivered a firm warning to fans looking to attend the final of their major European competitions, insisting that tickets on the secondary market may not grant them access to the stadium. 

Liverpool take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final on May 28 in Paris at the Stade de France, with supporters of both clubs able to obtain tickets via access to their own ballot and from the UEFA official ballot. 

Yet with tickets supposedly available on third party websites – such as livefootballtickets.com where prices start at a startling £2,797 – European football’s governing body have released a statement warning fans that counterfeit tickets will simply not grant them access to stadiums.

The statement detailed: ‘All tickets to the finals are issued by UEFA and are subject to strict terms and conditions which prohibit their unauthorised advertisement, resale or transfer.

‘As such, any tickets which are offered for sale by third parties on the internet (including on social media, marketplaces and secondary ticketing platforms) are advertised in breach of the ticket terms and conditions. UEFA actively enforces its ticketing terms and conditions, including by monitoring the internet, and will take action (including cancelling tickets) where unauthorised advertisements are identified.

‘Fans should also be aware that third parties offering for sale tickets on the internet are often not in possession of the tickets which they claim to have for sale, despite demanding exorbitant prices for such tickets.

‘In addition, UEFA is conscious that the demand for tickets to the finals may result in counterfeit tickets entering the secondary market, as has occurred at previous finals. Fans are advised that any such counterfeit tickets will not gain entry to the stadiums.’

Lionel Messi was the world’s highest-paid athlete over the last year, according to the annual Forbes list released on Wednesday that had the Paris Saint-Germain forward ahead of the NBA’s LeBron James and Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi earned $130 million, a figure which includes $55 million of endorsements, during the 12-month period ended May 1, 2022, to sit atop the list of the 10 highest-paid athletes a year after finishing second to Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor.

Los Angeles Lakers forward James was next on the list after bringing home a combined $121 million, shattering the $96.5 million record for an NBA player that he set last year, while Portugal captain Ronaldo earned $115 million to sit third.

Brazilian soccer player Neymar ($95 million) and three-time NBA champion Stephen Curry ($92.8 million) of the Golden State Warriors rounded out the top five.

NBA player Kevin Durant ($92 million) was sixth while Swiss tennis great Roger Federer, who played five tournaments in 2021 before a knee operation curtailed his season, was third with total earnings of $90.7 million.

The final three spots on the list went to Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez ($90 million), seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady ($83.9 million) and reigning NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Giannis Antetokounmpo ($80.9 million).

Forbes said its on-the-field earnings figures include all prize money, salaries and bonuses earned during the 12-month period while off-field earnings are an estimate of sponsorship deals, appearance fees and licensing income.
