James Gyakye Quayson Knows The System Was Against Him – Amaliba | Politics

Published

on

Abraham Amaliba, a member of the opposition NDC’s legal team, has stated that the judicial system was against ousted Assin North Member of Parliament, James Gyakye Quayson.

Amaliba stated that the lawyers for the Assin North MP would possibly go for a review of the 5-2 decision.

He explained to an Accra-based Joy FM that, “as lawyers, we are meeting this evening and we will take a decision. It’s 5-2, it’s possible that a review can be made and if the judges are minded they can turn around the decision, but nobody should be talking about a by-election now when the matter itself has not been disposed of.”

James Gyakye Quayson, according to Abraham Amaliba, is happy about the support given him by his lawyers.

“He has seen the effort we are putting in and he knows that the system is against him,” he said.

The Supreme Court’s 5-2 ruling is to be upheld until the determination of the substantive case filed against Mr. Quayson

Amaliba advised the MP who has been restrained by the court from performing his Parliamentary duties to run for the seat if a by-election is held.

He noted, “he is a popular person in the town and I am sure that people knowing that this is more like a persecution of him, would give him the nod to come to Parliament.”

Background

In July 2021, a High Court in Cape Coast nullified the election of the Assin North MP, after it found that he owed allegiance to Canada at the time of filing his nomination forms to contest the polls.

Michael Ankomah Nimfah, a resident of the constituency, filed the petition in court and later initiated another action at the Supreme Court to enforce the High Court’s decision.

He urged the Court to prevent a further breach of the constitution by restraining the MP.

On Wednesday, April 13, the Supreme Court in a 5-2 decision ruled on the issue by barring the Assin North MP from performing any Parliamentary duty.

This is until the determination of the substantive case filed against him at the Supreme Court.

Overnight Achievers; Ablakwa, Kwakye Ofosu, Sammy Awuku, Eugene Arhin, Et Al ‘Stealing’ Wealth From State Coffers – Maurice Ampaw Alleges  | Politics

Published

on

Controversial Lawyer, Maurice Ampaw says some ‘babies in diapers’ have in a short period become ‘millionaires’ – something they would have struggled to achieve if they did not venture into politics.

According to him, politics in Ghana has become the fastest way for just any ordinary person to become rich.

He named the likes of Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Okudzeto Ablakwa, NDC’s Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the National Youth Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, Director General, National Lottery Authority, Sammy Awuku among others who have suddenly become “rich” with their involvement into politics.

Lawyer Ampaw argued that the acquisition of wealth among some young politicians in the country is alarming – he, however, called on the office of the Special Prosecutor (SP) to investigate them to save the public purse.

“We know them, you don’t need lawyer Ampaw to mention names. Their quest to be MPs and acquisition of properties is mind-blowing. They are overnight achievers; they have not suffered enough.”

“Someone like Okudzeto Ablakwa, Felix Kwakye Ofosu among others have done nothing in life but rich now, we saw the lavish wedding by Okudzeto Ablakwa in this country. Where did he get the money from as a university graduate with no working experience?”

“I have known Okudzeto Ablakwa from years back. He couldn’t even afford to pay for his car maintenance. He was nobody but when he entered politics, things changed drastically. As I speak, his new mansion in his hometown is more than a palace,” he claimed.

Lawyer Ampaw further said the Nana Addo-led government is also breeding ‘young yet powerful’ politicians who are stealing from his government.

“Who is Sammy Awuku, ‘boys abr3’? a lot of them, what have they done in life. Nana B, Asenso and the rest. They are a lot them, right from university they entered politics and are rich now,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show, ‘Ghana Montie’, Thursday, 19th May 2022.

Lawyer Ampaw, who was discussing the Special Prosecutor’s role to protect the public purse told host, Akwasi Aboagye that – “All these boys from Mahama’s time to President Nana Addo’s time must be investigated on how they are making their money.”

“There are so many things happening in this country. People are stealing from the state,” he lamented.

“Someone like Eugene Arhin [Director of communications at the office of the president], Jesus Christ, what has he done in life?” he questioned.

The Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam/Adoagyiri constituency, Hon Frank Annoh-Dompreh has urged the western world not to be passive in the geo-politics of the world especially Africa.

He observed that anytime the western world became passive in global political affairs, autocratic countries such as China and Russia increased their activities to fill the vacuum created by the passive posture of the western world.

The Majority Chief Whip was speaking at the German-African Conference of Parliamentarians 2022, held in Berlin Germany.

The programme was on the theme “Africa and Europe in the age of a new geopolitical rivalry and how to improve bilateral cooperation in the light of the new EU-Africa strategy adopted in February 2022”.

Representatives from Africa and Europe attended the conference.

Frank Annoh-Dompreh also urged African countries to focus on their priorities and harness their natural resources towards national development.

He also urged citizens of Africa to hold their governments accountable in order to make them take decisions in the best interest of the people.

Drama Unfolds As NPP Aspirant Cries For Votes | Politics

Published

on

DRAMA UNFOLDED when an aspirant for the Ashanti Regional Second Vice Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Oscar Riches, burst into tears whilst he was campaigning for votes.

Affectionately called ‘Ghana Beye Yie’, Oscar was addressing the Effiduase Asokore Constituency executives of the NPP to solicit their votes, when he started to cry on Monday.

Ghana Beye Yie, who had then been given the platform to announce his campaign message to the NPP delegates, turned emotional whilst he was pleading with the delegates to support his bid.

According to him, he loved the NPP so much with his whole heart and so was only seeking the chance to be elected as the party’s regional second vice chairman so he could serve his beloved NPP.

In the course of his address, Ghana Beye Yie became emotional as he went down on his knees and started to cry uncontrollably, begging and pleading with the delegates to give him the chance to serve.

The NPP man’s shocking action, reportedly, made the NPP delegates present also emotional. Some of the delegates even consoled Ghana Beye Yie to stop crying and assured him of their votes.

After he had been consoled, Ghana Beye Yie continued with his statement, stressing that the NPP is the suitable political party to lead the country into affluence, so the party should stay in power.

According to him, election 2024 would be dicey and therefore the NPP should vote for patriotic, visionary and hardworking people like him to help the party to hang onto political power in 2024.
