Manchester United will give Cristiano Ronaldo compassionate leave for as long as he needs following the tragic death of his baby boy, according to Mail Online.

The Portuguese star and his partner Georgina Rodriguez announced the sad news on Monday night April 18, adding that only the birth of a healthy twin baby girl gave them ‘the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness’.
The former Juventus striker missed Tuesday night’s game against Liverpool at Anfield after United gave him compassionate leave to be with his family.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick said: ‘Yes, of course, this is the worst that can happen. I am a father of two sons myself so I am fully aware of what that means.

‘We are all behind him, we are all with him, and wish that he and his family are strong together.’
Earlier a statement from the club read: ‘Everybody at Manchester United and indeed the football world is sending love to Cristiano Ronaldo and his family, after the club legend made a heart-breaking announcement on Monday evening.

‘Family is more important than everything and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time.

‘As such, we can confirm that he will not feature in the match against Liverpool at Anfield and we underline the family’s request for privacy. Cristiano, we are all thinking of you and sending strength to the family.’

Female Referees To Officiate At Men’s World Cup For First Time In Qatar | Football/Soccer

Published

on

Female referees will officiate matches at this year’s men’s World Cup for the first time in the tournament’s history.

France’s Stephanie Frappart, Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga and Japan’s Yoshimi Yamashita have been selected to take charge of games in Qatar.

They will be supported by three female assistant referees.

Premier League referees Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor have also been chosen for the tournament, which begins on Monday, 21 November.

Taylor refereed the Euro 2020 match between Denmark and Finland, and was praised for reacting quickly to ensure Christian Eriksen received urgent medical attention after collapsing on the field.

In total, 36 referees, 69 assistant referees and 24 video match officials have been chosen for this year’s tournament.

“As always, the criteria we have used is ‘quality first’ and the selected match officials represent the highest level of refereeing worldwide,” said the chairman of Fifa’s referees committee Pierluigi Collina.

“This concludes a long process that began several years ago with the deployment of female referees at Fifa men’s junior and senior tournaments.

“In this way, we clearly emphasise it is quality that counts for us and not gender.

“I would hope that in the future, the selection of elite women’s match officials for important men’s competitions will be perceived as something normal and no longer as sensational.”

Former Sports Minister Reveals How Two Ghanaian Players Were Sacked By European Clubs For Using ‘Juju’ | Football/Soccer

Published

Former Ghana’s Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuiye, has revealed how black magic popularly known as ”juju” has ended the career of some amazing Ghanaian footballers who had a lot of prospects.

The former Ghanaian commentator in an interview spoke on how some Ghanaian footballers started off their career in the domestic league but due to the reliance on juju instead of their skill or talent faded out easily.

Vanderpuiye disclosed how two Ghanaian players were sacked by the clubs in Italy and France for using black magic.

“There was a situation a player has been sacked from Italy because he was dabbling in those things,” the MP for the Odododiodio Constituency said.

“And anytime they go to the dressing room, he will be the last one to come out because when all of them are going out, he had to put certain things on his body before he gets out. But there were cameras there and they caught him.

“There was another case in Belgium when a talisman fell from a player (goalkeeper) so he was trying to pick it up and a goal was scored.”

Mr. Vanderpuye said another Ghanaian footballer failed to perform in France when he was stopped from performing his rituals in Europe.

“The thing is so endemic. I have had a situation where a player who was sent out to France, a wonderful player, but because he was not allowed to do those things, his football career ended.

“Because he had believed so much in those things that he thinks without them there is no way he can play,” the legislator added.
