England Set To Lose Eddie & Callum With The Pair ‘To Switch International Allegiances To Ghana’ | Football/Soccer

Published

on

The England national team is reportedly set to lose Eddie Nketiah and Callum Hudson-Odoi with the pair set to switch international allegiances to Ghana ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi have both represented England at various levels.

Football.London have stated that Nketiah has been persuaded to switch international allegiance to the African nation, along with Hudson-Odoi.

Nketiah, who has scored four goals in his last four Premier League appearances, has previously played for the England Under-21 set-up. He holds the record for most goals at Under-21 level with 16, but has yet to secure an international cap for the senior squad.

The striker is to be joined by Hudson Odoi despite the Chelsea winger receiving three caps by Gareth Southgate.

A FIFA rule change in September 2020 allows players with no more than three caps to change their allegiance if those caps came before their 21st birthday.

Should both men officially make the switch, it will boost their chances of playing at this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana qualified for the tournament and will play in a group alongside Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.

Callum Hudson-Odoi made his international debut in a 5-0 victory over the Czech Republic in 2019, before later playing games against Montenegro and Kosovo that same year. He also famously turned down the opportunity to play for the England Under-21 team last year, so that he could focus on fighting for his place at Chelsea.

Hearts Coach Devastated By Illness Situation In Camp; 19 Players Affected | Football/Soccer

Published

on

Samuel Boadu, Head Coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, says the health situation in camp has made it very difficult for him as a coach, especially at a time when they were gradually peaking.

The Accra-based giants were struck by a strange illness earlier in the week and wanted their match against Bibiani Gold Stars postponed, but the Ghana Football Association (GFA) turned it down.

Despite missing the likes of Frederick Ansah Botchway, Caleb Amankwah, Robert Addo, Richmond Ayi, Fatawu Mohammed, Abdul Aziz Nurudeen, Seidu Suraj, among others, Hearts came out victorious against Gold Stars, with Samuel Inkoom scoring the decisive goal to ensure the Phobians secured three points.

According to Coach Boadu, 19 players have been affected by illness, though he was not specific on the nature of the illness.

“Today’s game was a difficult one. We had a few problems in camp but we spoke to the guys and psyched them to come up with their best and they delivered for us to get a win.

“For now, I have not received any report from the team doctor as to the particular illness that has struck camp, but I know 19 players have been affected by the illness.

“It is very difficult and if you were in my shoes you would understand. We were in form and all of sudden this illness happened, so it was hectic for us, but we managed to put things in place to psyche the players,” he said in a post-match interview.

Despite their setback, Coach Boadu was confident that they would be able to secure all three points against Eleven Wonders in their match-day 30 encounter.

Ghana Premier League: Hearts of Oak 1-0 Bibiani GoldStars | Football/Soccer

Published

on

Hearts of Oak moved up to third place after a narrow victory over Bibiani GoldStars on Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Phobians have had a difficult few days, with several of their players hospitalized due to unknown illnesses.

Samuel Boadu raised a team, naming only five players on the bench, with Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Abdul Aziz Nurudeen, and Isaac Mensah all absent.

They could, however, rely on goalkeeper Richard Attah, who is back in action, and experienced duo Sulley Muntari and Samuel Inkoom. One of the more experienced players decided the game in Hearts of Oak’s favour.

Inkoom scored the game-winning goal earlier in the game, giving Hearts their third win in four games and increasing their chances of finishing in the top four.

After 11 minutes, Hearts of Oak were awarded a penalty, which Inkoom calmly converted to give them the lead.

The defeat extends GoldStars’ terrible run away from home. This season, they have gone winless in 15 away games.

Chelsea Want To Complete Kounde Transfer As Soon As UK Government Sanctions End | Football/Soccer

Published

The Blues want to kickstart their summer with a big defensive signing with two of their current first team departing.

Chelsea have put in place plans to sign Sevilla’s Jules Kounde as soon as Todd Boehly’s takeover is complete and sanctions end.

With both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to depart for Real Madrid and Barcelona, respectively, this summer, the Blues are keen to sign a top central defender.

Like Chelsea, Sevilla are also keen to do the deal as early as possible in order for Kounde’s replacement to be signed and quickly brought up to speed.

What has been agreed so far in Chelsea’s pursuit of Kounde?

The 23-year-old has a verbal agreement in place about moving this summer and wants to transfer to Stamford Bridge after talks collapsed last year.

The west London club had already agreed on a contract with the player but the move fell apart over both the fee and late timing of the talks.

The Liga outfit need to raise around £38m ($47m) to balance the books before June 30. However, they are asking for around £59m ($73m) for the France international defender, who can play at centre-back or right-back.

Thomas Tuchel had a meal with prospective new owner Todd Boehly last week, but the pair didn’t speak about transfers.

Still, there is an understanding around the club that Boehly is ambitious and wants to continue pushing his acquisition towards titles.

“He paid some money for it, so I don’t think he is keen to drop the ambition,” Tuchel said after the FA Cup final at the weekend.

“We will share our opinion in more detail over the next weeks and I am sure he is as ambitious to build a competitive Chelsea for the highest level.”

That has been the basis of scouting and talks with agents behind the scenes, although this has been limited in scope compared to their unsanctioned rivals.
